Our 2018-2019 Season
In YMTC’s fourteenth season, we are thrilled to be producing three exciting shows! Diverse in content and style, all touch on themes of tolerance, compassion, and forgiveness.
The young artists we are privileged to mentor understand the dire need for these qualities in our world today, and we look forward to diving into the stories with them and bringing them to you.
Now, more than ever, YMTC is committed to providing an artistic home in which young artists can co-create exceptional musical theater under the mentorship of theater professionals. Whether our students are performers or prefer to learn the technical aspects of theater, YMTC supports their aspirations. And you, the audience—our community—are the final ingredient in the alchemy of live theater that makes all our work worthwhile.
We look forward to seeing you at the theater!

Bat Boy: The Musical
November 11-18, 2018
Bat Boy: The Musical is a comedy, but contains mature themes and extreme violence and is not appropriate for young children.
Music & Lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe
Story & Book by Keythe Farley & Brian Flemming
A story about tolerance, fear, and acceptance, Bat Boy: The Musical is a contemporary rock musical comedy/horror show. The subject is a half boy/half bat creature, who is discovered in a cave near Hope Falls, West Virginia. The local sheriff brings Bat Boy to the home of the town veterinarian, where he is eventually accepted as a member of the family and taught to act like a "normal" boy by his wife and teenage daughter. Bat Boy is happy with his new life, but when he naively tries to fit in with the narrow-minded people of Hope Falls, they turn on him.

A Man of No Importance
March 9-17, 2019
Music by Stephen Flaherty
Lyrics by Lynn Ahrens
Book by Terrence McNally
This musical is a tender tale of love, friendship, and coming to terms with who we are. Set in Ireland, A Man of No Importance is from the same artistic team who created Ragtime and demonstrates the power of theater to create change. Alfie Byrne is a bus driver in 1964 Dublin, whose heart holds secrets that he can't share with anyone but his imagined confidante, Oscar Wilde. When he attempts to produce an amateur production of Wilde's Salome in the local church hall, he confronts the forces of bigotry and shame over a love "that dare not speak its name.” Melodic Irish-flavored orchestrations, depth, drama, and comedy combine in A Man of No Importance.

Lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer
Original French Text by Alain Boublil & Jean-Marc Natel
Based on Victor Hugo’s novel, Les Misérables is an award-winning, epic, grand, and uplifting story about social injustice and the struggle for redemption and revolution in 19th century France. A sung-through pop opera, the show will be accompanied by a full, live orchestra. The heart of the story focuses on Jean Valjean, a prisoner who breaks his parole to start a new life. His impassioned struggle for freedom and redemption and the characters who support and challenge him are at the center of the drama. The show first premiered in London in 1985 and remains the world’s longest running musical.
