Our 2019-2020 Season

IT’S OUR 15TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON...and it’s all about LOVE!

We are thrilled to be producing three exciting, romantic, and heart-filled shows! From a tale of heartbreak and struggle in New York City (Rent), to a toe-tapping, small town romance in Rivercity, Iowa (The Music Man), to a sultry and irreverent romp in the Swedish countryside at the turn of the 20th century (A Little Night Music), our 2019-20 season celebrates love in many forms and and offers something for audiences of all ages.

The young artists we are privileged to mentor are at the heart of our mission and we can’t wait to dive into these stories with them, and bring them to you-- our community. Now, more than ever, YMTC is committed to providing an artistic home in which young artists can co-create exceptional musical theater under the mentorship of theater professionals. Whether our students are performers or aspiring directors, choreographers, designers or theater technicians, YMTC supports their aspirations. And you, the audience, are the final ingredient in the alchemy of live theater that makes all our work worthwhile.

Romantic, sparkling, and toe-tapping, The Music Man is the story of Harold Hill, who uses his wit, charm, and intellect to con small towns by posing as a music teacher selling instruments to organize boy’s bands. However, when he gets to River City, Iowa there is one person he can’t fool -- the discerning and sharp librarian and piano teacher--Marion, and a classic love-at-first-fight story ensues. Winner of 6 Tony Awards, family-friendly and consistently entertaining generations of audiences since 1957, The Music Man will feature a full, live 26 piece orchestra.

A YMTC+ production

A Little Night Music, Sondheim’s sultry, lusty love story set in 1900 Sweden during a weekend in the country, is a sharp, witty musical that, in true farcical form, follows a group of characters of different ages who fall in love with all the wrong people, but eventually end up with their perfect matches.

The score for A Little Night Music was composed in almost entirely three quarter time--making the entire score like a waltz—and includes the popular song “Send in the Clowns.” Winner (1973) of 6 Tony Awards (including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Score), 4 Drama Desk Awards (including Outstanding Book, Lyrics and Music), and a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album

YMTC + is an exciting new area of growth for YMTC, producing professional shows featuring YMTC alumni, and other local professional singing actors, working alongside our students, mentoring them on stage and off. Learn more.
