El Cerrito Performing Arts Theater

This theater boasts a beautiful, state of the art theater with an orchestra pit – well-suited to large-scale productions, with seating for over 420 patrons on the orchestra level. The theater is ADA/AODA compliant, accessible without stairs, and an elevator is available for patrons who park in the school lot near the theater.

540 Ashbury Avenue, El Cerrito. Free parking is available on the street, and a school parking lot located on the theater side of the campus.

Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts

This popular performance and visual arts center has been serving the community dating back to the 1920s. The turn-of-the century theater is home to some of the Bay Area’s top performing arts companies such as Oakland Ballet and Axis Dance Theater.  Our performances are held in the spacious 300-seat theater,which is ADA-compliant. We serve wine and beer and snacks before the shows and during intermission in the open and welcoming lobby.

The center is also a short, walking distance from Lake Merritt or 12th St BART stations.

Bolivar Outdoor Stage at YMTC Campus

When COVID-19 forced us to close our doors on indoor, live performances, we looked to see what we already had, and how to take advantage of it so we could keep offering live programming for our students and our audiences. With the generous support of donors and sponsors, we built an ADA-compliant outdoor stage in between our rehearsal and shop buildings in Aquatic Park. And in the fall of 2020, we began producing outdoor theater. Learning as we went, throughout the year, we created larger and larger scaled productions. We started the season, in the fall of 2020, with a 9 person cast show,  a minimal set, 2 pianos, and audiences of about 35 people per show. By the end of the season, in the summer of 2021, we produced our fourth outdoor show, with a fully designed set that was carefully integrated into the outdoor setting, a cast of 15, a live chamber orchestra, and audiences of 120 per show.  

Our outdoor season was such a soaring success, that we decided to integrate the Bolivar Stage into our regular season, and will be producing a production there each spring, sandwiched between our other mainstage productions at our traditional, indoor venues.

Bolivar Stage is accessible by the 49 bus which drops at Ashby and 7th and the J goes to Hollis and 67th.  The Emery Go-Round that takes you to us from all around the East Bay.
